Most HVAC companies should use HVAC contractor as the primary category, then add only the additional categories that match a distinct line of work. Google allows one primary category and up to nine additional ones, chosen from its fixed list (Google Business Profile help). Category names can change; type each one into your profile's category field to confirm it still exists before you rely on this list.

HVAC contractor. If most of your calls are one type of job, for example AC repair, compare the categories the top local results use before you choose.
Additional categories to consider
Only add one if customers can hire you for that work by itself. Adding categories you do not offer can make your listing less relevant, not more.

- Plumber (only if you run plumbing as its own service)
- Boiler supplier

What goes in Services instead
Work that is part of your main trade usually belongs in the Services section of your profile, not in categories. Examples for HVAC companies: AC tune-ups, heat pump installation, thermostat installation, maintenance plans, emergency repairs.
Pick your HVAC companies categories
Tick the primary category first, then only the additional categories that describe work customers can hire you for on its own. Google allows 1 primary and up to 9 additional categories. Nothing is uploaded; it runs in your browser.
Check your categories against competitors
- Search your main service plus your city in Google Maps.
- Note the category shown under each business in the top three results. That is their primary category.
- If most of them use a different primary than yours, check whether it describes your business more accurately.
